Sedation Dentistry

Does your child need a long, complicated dental procedure? Does your child experience high dental anxiety that often interferes with treatment? Here at Jenks Dental, we provide two sedation dentistry options to help your child relax while visiting our office.

Laughing Gas

Laughing gas is our most commonly used sedation method. The gas doesn’t put your child to sleep, but promotes relaxation and works effectively against anxiety.

If your child needs laughing gas during an appointment, a breathing mask is placed over the nose and quickly starts to work. The gas only stays in the body as long as your child is breathing it, so once the mask is removed, the effects immediately wear off.

IV Sedation

For our very anxious patients or for patients who need complex treatment, we might recommend IV sedation. Older children won’t be able to drive; make sure someone can drive to and from the appointment.

With intravenous, or IV, sedation, the medication is administered directly into a vein so it takes effect quickly. Your child will need some recovery time in the office because IV sedation takes some time to leave the bloodstream. We will make sure your child feels okay and give you any additional instruction before you go.

We care about your children like our very own children. We feel this is the safest and most effective in-office sedation method. This method allows us to bring in an additional anesthesia provider just to administer and monitor the sedation without having to enter into a hospital setting.

Is Sedation Dentistry Safe for My Child?

We practice safe sedation methods and provide information that can help the process run more smoothly. Our Doctors are experienced Pediatric Dentists who provide great results and understand how sedation dentistry works. We will tell you exactly what is going to happen when we administer sedation, as well as answer any questions you might have.
